"It's a voice for life - not just for work!"

About Phyllida

Phyllida Furse MA PVP, PGCE, ALAM has been delivering vocal health and development workshops to schools, colleges, and universities, as well as in the commercial sector since 1996.
Before becoming a Voice Specialist, she taught English as a Foreign Language and Modern Foreign Languages (French and Italian). This has informed her work on articulation and pronunciation, and the impact on teaching and learning of different pronunciations 'tunes' and accents.

As Development Officer of the Voice Care Network UK for four years, she designed and delivered core training workshops in Voice Care and Speaking Skills to professional voice users nationally. She lectures on the MA Professional Voice Practitioner program at Birmingham City University and her research interest is in the prevention and allieviation of Muscle Tension Dysphonia (the long term form of temporary voice train). A passion for clear and confident spoken delivery underpins all her work.

"A healthy voice begins with muscular ease, and positive postural alignment. When we are hunched and tense the throat is tight and so is our speech. We also lose power. By becoming aware of our posture and breath patterns we can begin to ‘be’ more easily and connect to our own personal power and true voice. We can then look and feel much more confident without even saying a word!”
